4. Documentation: a work report and, for destruction, the corresponding certificate.

 

Why destroy an ATM instead of just discarding it?

A retired ATM can still hold transaction logs, network settings and encryption keys on its hard drive and PIN pad. A factory reset does not remove that information. Documented physical destruction protects your institution and leaves evidence ready for compliance audits (PCI DSS and GLBA).

 

You receive: an inventory by serial number, a chain-of-custody record, a certificate of destruction and photos of the process (optional).
